i was in the airport for like. six hours last night (my flight was delayed seven times lol) and i got to thinking. the fact that bratty and catty pick up on the familiarity of the way mettaton talks to alphys, the way he treated her like an old friend even right after he was built. the way the only time he gets close to letting slip a hint to his former identity is when he almost calls out napstablook’s nickname after hearing their voice for the first time in years. even during the pacifist epilogue, he does it again! finally standing with them again, he almost refers to them as blooky, but then catches himself.
it’s the way mettaton takes great care to bury his past most of the time, but can never hide (or never bothers to hide?) his longstanding friendship with alphys and familiarity with napstablook. the only case in which he gives people reason to wonder where he came from is when he’s talking to his friends and family from the time before- even now, the love he’s had for them for so long spills over, and he can’t help but love them like he always has, even though it puts his secret at risk.
not joking I would kind of like to brutally murder whoever thought it was a good idea to take away clicking on a person’s name to see their reblog and make it borderline impossible to get to the original version of a post without spending ten minutes scrolling with ctrl f
